Since leaving the corporate world I have turned my focus to woodworking and the joy that it brings me each day. I started Down to Earth Wooden Creations where I’m able to showcase and sell the hand crafted one-of-a-kind items that I create.
As an artisan, I work to showcase the beauty that has been created by nature in each of the hand crafted one-of-a-kind items. Over hundreds of years nature has provided the beautiful grains, knots, spalting and inclusions in the wood that are showcased in the items that are for sale in my shop today. Woodworking is one of the oldest art forms and I try to provide a fresh spin on this ancient art form each day in my attempt to showcase the natural beauty of the wood in each of the unique pieces that I create. My hand crafted creations range from vessels that can be used for multiple purposes, bowls, charcuterie boards, suspended wooded sculptures. You will find in many of my creations I have chosen to showcase both the live edge of the wood and/or the natural edge found underneath the bark of the tree which helps bring nature indoors to be enjoyed by all. Along with using the beautiful woods that are sustainably harvested I also utilize Lichtenberg/Fractal burning, epoxy, various inlays and deer antlers (found locally) to enhance and/or provide durability to pieces. I was raised on a farm north of Iowa City where I was able to enjoy countless hours in the timbers on our property enjoying the nature that surrounded me each day. Today I still enjoy those same timbers as I work out of my shop locate on the farm where I grew up. |
